McWane Science Center

McWane Science Center takes up a big corner of downtown Birmingham, AL and rightly so.  The ingenuity of the interactive displays more than makes up for the few missing pieces in the giant Tinker Toys.  The kids wanted to spend hours just laying on the bed of nails.  Nails go up...
  Nails go down.  Nails go up.  Nails go down.

My understanding of how to blow smoke rings may finally lead to success.  I don't smoke but for sure I'll try that tomorrow when the next Polar Vortex is forecast to arrive!

The rule about reading the scientific explanation at each display may have been lost in translation.  The boys will get another chance to read them though since we expect to visit this place  again.  I might even start a unit on convex and concave lenses so they can really notice the changes in the distance of focal points.  Something reflective and flexible should demonstrate the differences.  I might need another trip to the science center to remember how the convex lens works.
